Church 'Strip for Me' billboard attracting attention

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -

A church in Birmingham, Ala. says its unusual billboard is grabbing people's attention and making patrons of a local strip club think twice about how they spend their money, MyFoxAL.com reports.

The Rock Church's sign quotes Jesus from Hebrews, saying, "Strip for me." Officials say the message is to convince people to spend money in a way that will better serve their family rather than spend it in a strip club.

The sign is located just behind the Palace Gentlemen's Club sign in the city's downtown.

Pastor Mike McClure, Jr., said that he anticipated some negative reaction to the billboard but said he doesn't mind.

"We strategically picked the strip club because we want the brothers who are walking in...to know God has a greater cause for your life," he told MyFoxAl.com.

McClure says billboard contains a clear religious message.

"The scripture says...slows down, maybe your life is slow because of stuff you need to strip off. When you begin to strip watch how fast your life goes," he said.

McClure said that he wants to convince men to stay out of strip clubs and spend more time working to be a better father and family member. He says the goal is to make Birmingham a better place.

"It all starts with a good man in the house," he said.
