FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -
Attorneys for basketball legend Michael Jordan were in a Fulton County courtroom for a paternity hearing on Tuesday.
Pamela Smith, 49, has filed a lawsuit claiming the NBA Hall of Famer is the father of her child.
The American Airlines flight attendant said that her money is not money. She said that she is filing the suit now because her son wants to know who his biological father is.
"My son has rights to know who his father is and that is a major issue," Smith said. "I have to support my son, and he has had an issue with this over the years, because he doesn't have a relationship with the person that he thought was his father. So he needs to know for sure who his father is," Smith said.
Smith has previously told FOX 5 that she had a two-year relationship with Jordan after the two met in Chicago. She insists that her son was conceived out of love with Jordan and not the result of a brief encounter.
Smith's lawsuit requests that Jordan take a paternity test and pay child support and partial medical expenses.
Jordan has asked the judge to dismiss the lawsuit. He claims he is not the father of Smith's 16-year-old son. He's also filed a counter-claim against Smith for false claims against him. In that countersuit, Jordan's attorney said that the issue never came up with Smith divorced her former husband in 2005.
