ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. -
It was a landmark day in rebuilding in Adairsville on Sunday after January's tornado destroyed many of the buildings.
Local leaders broke ground on a new building that will replace one of the oldest churches in heart of the town.
Seven shovels full of dirt began the rise again of the oldest African-American church on Sunday. The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was hit during a tornado at the end of January. Damage to the structure was so bad that the 103-year-old church had to be torn down.
Insurance would not cover the cost to rebuild alone, so several other churches came together to help. Donations are being accepted from the public at the United Community Bank in Adairsville.
