As federal budget cuts loom Friday, the White House says a number of federally funded programs in Georgia will be impacted, including a $1.3 million cut in money used to feed seniors in Georgia.

Local agencies have already been bracing for the potential cut in funds.

"Well, we've been discussing this with our area Agency on Aging since November or December of last year about the possibility of some cuts," said Kenn Vanhoose, the program manager of Fulton County Office of Aging.

Vanhoose doesn't know exactly how much could be cut from his budget, but he does know who it will impact.

"We serve about a thousand home-delivered meals a day. Fifty percent of those are below poverty. The vast majority of them live alone and have a limited support system. So, they really need the services," Vanhoose said.

If the budget cuts do come because the White House and Congress can't reach a compromise, Vanhoose says Fulton County has a plan in place to deal with it.

"The cuts, if they come, really we'll kind of counterbalance the additional funding we got with the county and enable us to maintain services rather than expand," Vanhoose said.

The Fulton County office of aging will participate in a White House conference call on Tuesday morning to discuss the President's proposals for preventing sequestration.
