ATLANTA -

Imagine having a remote control for everything you own in your home. You can have that in the palm of your hands, or rather in your smart phone.

An app can take control of your thermostat or lock your front door as well as helps you monitor your security cameras.

The name of the app is the Iris.

Verizon teamed up with Lowes to offer the Iris Home Systems. These are products that automate some features of your home. It uses a hub which connects to the Internet and to your smart phone or tablet.

Iris comes with digital thermostat controls, wall plugs and switches. It can even help you monitor your energy usage and even give an estimate on home much your bill might be.

Iris includes home security equipment. The keypad is similar to those found in the standard home security system except everything in Iris is also wireless.

A motion detector will send an alert to you phone. So will a sensor at a door, window or gun safe. An optional HD camera will let you check the area to see in near real-time what is going on.

The most popular kit is the Comfort and Control Kit that includes a thermostat. That prices around $179.

The Safe and Secure Kit which includes a keypad, motion sensor and door sensors in also $179 with the additional option to purchase a camera for $129.

Some of the features require a $10 monthly charge while other services are free.
