STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) - Emergency responders in southeast Georgia say a farmer and a rescue worker have been freed from a grain silo full of soybeans.
Ted Wynn, Bulloch County public safety director, says farmer David Averitt was trapped in the 40-foot tall silo for hours before rescue crews began cutting 6 inch holes around the structure to try relieving the pressure by emptying some of the soybeans.
Wynn says Bulloch Country rescue worker Daryl Colson got too close to 1 of the holes and was buried up to his chest in soybeans.
Both men were freed around 7:30 p.m. and were taken to a hospital in Savannah for evaluations.
Authorities are unsure of how Averitt - a retired state trooper - initially became trapped in the silo.
