Atlanta's police chief wants to kick prostitutes out of the city. FOX 5 has learned that Chief George Turner has asked city council to approve a so-called banishment law.
Under the plan, the first conviction would result in the accused prostitute being ordered not to return to the area they were arrested, according to Councilmember Michael Bond.
"If they are found in that location, they can be instantly arrested," Bond said.
Upon second conviction, the accused prostitute would be banished from city limits forever.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is trying to promote downtown living. Some downtown condo owners told FOX 5 that they have been disgusted by some of the things they have seen in the area.
Larry Miller, who has run a drug store in downtown Atlanta for 50 years, said he supports anything that would put a dent in the prostitution plague.
The proposal is slated to go before the Atlanta City Council Public Safety Panel on Tuesday.
