$2M Bail For Man Accused Of Throwing Woman Onto Subway Tracks

PHILADELPHIA -

Bail has been set at $2 million for the man who police say was caught on tape committing a terrifying attack on the Broad-Ridge Spur subway line earlier this week.

Police say William Clark, 36, whose last known address was on the 1300 block of Fitzwater Street in Philadelphia, was arrested Thursday in connection with Tuesday's attack, which was caught on camera.

Clark has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering the welfare of another person, robbery, theft and receiving stolen property, according to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.

Clark was arraigned overnight, and his bail was set at $2 million. He next faces a preliminary hearing on Feb. 5.

It was a shocking assault caught on camera at the Chinatown SEPTA station, and it all started as a simple request for a lighter, police say.

Police say once Clark got the lighter, he attacked the woman, throwing her onto the tracks, then stole her cell phone and walked away.

Police say they have a good reason why they didn't release a description to the public right away. The man on the video was seen wearing a distinctive jacket, which an officer spotted Clark wearing Thursday. He also allegedly had the victim's cell phone, which has been returned to her.

The victim is reported to have suffered minor injuries and is doing fine.
