"There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about her all the time. We are fundamentally living a life sentence," said Gary Gregory who choked up thinking about the murder of his sister Ellen. She was killed by her husband six years ago.
"It was like opening up the wound all over again. It was tragic," said Gregory about the devastating news the family got. Raphael Robb, Ellen's killer is getting out of prison after serving only half of his sentence.
Gregory said, "The appalling thing is this was his first time up for parole under his 5 to 10 year sentence and on his first crack at it he got it."
Robb who was an economics professor at Penn beat his wife to death with a crowbar in their home in December of 2006. The wounds were so bad that her face was unrecognizable.
"The judge described it as the most brutal crime scene and murder that he had ever seen in all his years on the bench in Montgomery County," said Gregory. So imagine Gregory's shock to find Robb will be a free man January 28th. Gregory is speaking out to let other victims know they can leave before something so heinous happens to them.
"They can leave just as my sister was about to do the day I drove up to her house and saw them putting her in the ambulance was the day she was moving out and starting a new life," sobbed Gregory. He also hopes the Parole Board hears his pain and reverses its decision.
"Our hope is that they hit the pause button and recognize that they need to do the right thing. It's the wrong thing to free this criminal," he said.
The family has a website called EveryGreatReason.org. If you'd like to help, you can visit the website and get information on how to help victims of domestic violence and help them petition to have Robb's parole reversed.
