Ceiling collapse injures workers in Manhattan

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A construction collapse at a building in Manhattan injured three workers Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A scaffold and part of a ceiling collapsed on the third floor of a building at 160 Lexington Avenue in Murray Hill at about 2 p.m.

The ceiling and scaffold tell on top of a group of construction workers, the FDNY said.

Battalion Chief Christopher Boyle said it is lucky that the collapsed ceiling, which weighed about 15 to 20 pounds per square foot, didn't take down the second floor with it.

Medics took the injured workers to Cornell Medical Center. One worker was listed in serious condition.

The collapse happened at an old Touro College building.
