A unit of Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta has been treated for bed bugs as a precautionary measure.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Behavioral Health and Development, Kistie N. Swink, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that a patient on 1 of the hospital's units reported bug bites to the staff on Wednesday.
Swink says a physician who treated the patient decided the bites could be from bed bugs..
The hospital had a pest control company treat the entire unit as a precaution.
Swink says patients were informed about the situation and removed from the unit. The patients returned after the unit was treated. The unit usually has about 40 patients.
Swink says the hospital handled the situation according to the infection control policy.
