Police are searching for a man they said killed his 48-year-old wife over the weekend.
Cobb County Police are looking for John Stephen Kristofak, 58, of Marietta after they found his wife Donna Nations Kristofak severely injured in their home located in the 3900 block of Tall Pine Drive near Marietta just before noon on Saturday.
She was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she later died.
According to court records obtained by FOX 5, Kristofak had a history of domestic violence. The records show that weeks after Donna filed paperwork to divorce John last year, he was arrested for choking her. Shortly after, she took out a restraining order out against him.
He was convicted of violating the restraining order several times by repeatedly calling her at work, sending her harassing text messages and stalking her. Kristofak was sentenced to probation and seven months in jail.
Neighbors in the area said they never heard of any problems with the family.
"It was stunning to me, even, to hear he had previous cases of domestic violence. Because nothing, absolutely, we never heard any screaming or yelling or any disturbance coming from that house," said neighbor Samuel Marinov.
A warrant was issued for her husband John on charges of aggravated assault and murder. Police said he was last seen driving a brown Chevrolet Equinox with Georgia tag BUV 2635. They said he is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3945 or call 911.
