Most of Interstate 65 in Birmingham has reopened to traffic a day after a fuel tanker overturned.
Al.com reports that the accident occurred at around 7:30 CST Friday and crews had been cleaning up the spilled fuel.
State transportation officials said Saturday that
all but one inside lane had reopened near the 3rd Avenue South on-ramp.
They said all lanes should be moving again later in the day.
Birmingham Fire Marshal C.W. Mardis said the truck
driver was taken to UAB hospital. A woman in another vehicle was also
injured.
Mardis said a truck owned by Dalton, Ga.-based
Spirit Express, LLC, was carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel and suffered "a
small rupture."
Authorities required some motorists to leave their vehicles on the interstate as the spill was contained.
