Authorities have made an arrest in the death of a 9-year-old Griffin girl. Spalding County Sheriff Wendell Beam said that 40-year-old Shane Clifton Collett was arrested on Saturday in the death of Skylar Dials.
Dials was found dead around 2 a.m. Saturday in a wooded area several hundred yards from her home, according to officials. An autopsy will determine the cause of death, according to Beam.
Dials was reported missing on Friday.
Police are still waiting on an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of Dials.
The Spalding County Sheriff said Skylar's parents wanted to express their appreciation and gratitude to the community for all their assistance in trying to find their daughter
Collett is charged with murder, kidnapping and concealing a death and is currently being held at the Spalding County Sheriff's Office Detention Center without bond.
Skylar was a student at Orrs Elementary School in Griffin.
Visitation for her will be Wednesday at Haisten McCullough Funeral Home and Westwood Gardens in Griffin from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Griffin Center Point Church.
