Thousands of American troops are returning home for the holidays this weekend. Many of them are flying through Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Many of these troops have been deployed for months away from their families and everything they love and they are ecstatic to be home for Christmas.
Some of these service men and women were just passing through Atlanta's airport on Friday, so they said their goodbyes to their brothers and sisters in arms and boarded connecting flights for home.
Others, like U.S. Army Pfc. Marshall Porter, waited patiently for a family member to pick them up from Hartsfield-Jackson. They said it's rewarding to come home to the country they love and have dedicated their lives to protect.
"It's amazing. It's been a while since I've seen my family. It's been a few months since I've seen my family -- to come home. My mom doesn't know I'm coming home. So, I'm surprising her as of today," said Porter.
But not every American troop gets to go home for the holidays. That's why the USA has set up a wish book for Christmas. Visit USO.org for information on how you can send a gift to a deployed service member.
