Two people were killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a tractor-trailer on an exit ramp off Interstate 75 in Bartow County on Friday.
Georgia State Police officials said that the tractor-trailer forced a vehicle trailing northbound out of the right lane of exit 293 and into a guardrail and overhead support pillar. The vehicle then caught fire, killing 29-year-old Maria Tabuena, from Calhoun, and her passenger, 4-year-old Melina Trichell, according to police.
The tractor-trailer driving did not stop, according to authorities. Police are on the lookout for a tractor-trailer described as long-nose, Peterbilt, maroon in color with silver. The tractor and trailer will both be dirty and the trailer will have damage to its right side, according to GSP officials.
Anyone with information is urged to call GSP Cartersville at (770) 387-3701.
SkyFOX 5 showed traffic backed up for several miles during the afternoon rush hour drive.
