CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -
A man who authorities say ran over a Clayton County police officer appeared in court on Thursday.
Authorities say U.S. Marshals arrested Thomas Paige at an apartment in Duluth on Wednesday. They say Paige was hiding at a friend's apartment. That person was arrested on charges of hiding Paige.
Paige, 36, is accused of running over Officer Michael Hooks on Dec. 12 outside an abandoned K-Mart distribution center. Authorities said that Paige and Jabari Jackson may have been stealing metal from the site when Officer Hooks arrived. Jackson was arrested shortly after the incident, but Paige managed to elude police for a week.
Paige faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated batter on a peace officer, felony hit and run, and felony obstruction of justice.
Police say he seriously hurt Hooks in the incident last week. Hooks is now out of the hospital and recovering.
