ATHENS, Ga. -
The Georgia Theater in Athens is planning a benefit to pay back a preservation group that helped the landmark concert venue recover after a devastating fire.
Proceeds from the Jan. 12 concert will go to the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, which set up a fund that raised $315,000 after the Athens theater burned in 2009. The money helped the owners rebuild and the Georgia Theatre reopened in 2011.
The concert will feature performances by the Infamous Stringdusters of Charlottesville, Va., and the Honeycutters of Ashville, N.C. Tickets are $55 and $250.
The Georgia Trust is a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving historic treasures among the state's homes, buildings and other places.
