ATLANTA -
Radio icons Frank Ski and Wanda Smith announced on Thursday they are leaving V-103 to pursue other careers.
Ski told FOX 5's Portia Bruner he had been contemplating the move. He said the show is doing well but felt there is more to accomplish. Ski was at the helm of a top-rated morning show at the station for 14 years.
"V-103 is the local station of this community and they want to be that. They want to be local. We have aspirations to be national," Ski said.
Frank says it's a test of his talent and his faith.
"The biggest part of this was to say, ‘do you believe in yourself enough to let it all go and live on your own merit,'" Ski said.
During the 8 a.m. hour of his show on Thursday, his partner Wanda Smith announced that she was leaving.
"It's bittersweet. It's happy and also sad at the same time, but I think that I am ready to experience more of my life, to do things that I love to do. Comedy is my first love. I stop everything, put everything on hold to do radio and I never did radio before, but this was a blessing that was dropped in my lap," said Smith.
Smith said she plans to hit the road to pursue her comedy career, and start working on movies and other types of productions.
Ski said he is staying in Atlanta, determined to take his career to a national level. His children are in area schools. He and his wife are planning to move closer into the city. He said he plans to stay busy with his restaurant, and is planning to develop his own brand of wine.
"I just had to listen to what I was preaching to everybody else. I can't keep telling everybody else to live your dream, live your passion and not do it myself," said Ski.
Ski says he is still trying to determine what platform he will use to take his career to a national level, but promises to do it from Atlanta.
Ski and Smith's last day on the air will be Thursday, December 21.
