Family and students at North Forsyth High School remembered a teenager killed in a car accident. The wreck on Hendrix Road in Cumming claimed the life of junior Kyle Robins on Monday afternoon. Another junior, a senior and three other people were hurt.
Barbara Robins, Kyle's mother, said she rushed to the scene.
"I said, ‘Please let me go to my son so I can hold his hand while his soul goes to Heaven," said Barbara Robins.
The grief-stricken mother said her son was a good kid.
"He was an awesome child….He was mature for 17 -- like way beyond mature. He had great rationale skills, and he was a friend to everybody," said Barbara Robins.
Hundreds met at the flag pole in front of the school, and held a prayer service for Robins. There were plenty of tears, but also laughter as they tried to remember the good times with the student.
Students and faculty remembered Robins as a happy, dedicated student who loved life, his family and his friends.
Robins' friend, Clay Barton, said he "was a really good kid. I always, I mean, just had the best laugh. His laugh made me laugh. And he was always happy. I never saw him sad or anything."
"A super individual that loved life. Loved his family, loved his friends. I think he was dedicated to being successful. Really applied the values of life into the everyday world," said Athletic Director Nathan Turner.
According to deputies, Robins was driving classmate Joel Knost home. They say the two North Forsyth High juniors came around a curve and slammed into a pick-up truck. The impact nearly cut Robins' car in half.
Inside the pick-up truck were North Forsyth senior Ally Jameson, her aunt who works for the school district, a Cumming elementary school student and a child too young to be in school.
Robins died in the crash. The other victims in the crash were taken to an area hospital and later released. Investigators say the road was wet at the time, and they think that, along with excessive speed, played a role in the accident.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes organized Tuesday's ceremony. Robins was a member of the group and played golf.
The Robins said that Kyle's "celebration of life" ceremony will be held Friday at 5:00 p.m. and at The Mountain Lake Church in Cumming.
