The Norcross Blue Devils can finish off an undefeated season with a victory over Lovejoy this weekend. A win would bring the team their first-ever state football title.
The majority of the 120 players on the team are juniors and sophomores. Coach Keith Maloof said it's a special group.
"They've just got this calm confidence about them. They don't get too jacked up. They don't get high. They don't get geeked out," Maloof said.
They'll need a Herculean effort from running back Alvin Kamara quarterback Joseph Wilbur to beat the wildcats. One of the Blue Devils main weapons, dual-threat Miles Autry, could be limited after suffering a knee injury against Colquit County"
"Miles is a big part of our offense. We will definitely miss him and it's just time for other kids to step up," said Maloof.
On defense, the likes of Tommy Tate, Lorenzo Carter and Jamal Jones would scare anybody. Keeping Norcross focused this week will be the challenge for the staff.
A moment of a lifetime is in sight. Maloof has a message for his players:
"Make this a priority for you, something that you can -- the history that you are making at Norcross High School -- that you'll be able to talk about the rest of your life, when you are sitting in a dorm room talking to your roommates and your college friends about this experience that you had in high school," said Maloof.
