Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person dead in Buford on Tuesday.
Gwinnett County police told FOX 5's Justin Gray that they were originally called to an apartment complex on North Alexander Street after several men were allegedly smoking marijuana in the parking lot.
When officers arrived, they began frisking several men. Authorities said that one of the men pulled out a gun and pointed it at his own head. At that point, an officer fired a Taser at the man, according to Cpl. Jake Smith of the Gwinnett County Police Department. The Taser shot did not stop the man, according to police.
"It was not successful in actually incapacitating him and the suspect pulled the prongs out. Right after he pulled the prongs out, he pointed the gun at the officers. Three officers fired and the suspect was struck and killed," Smith said.
Police identified the suspect who was shot by police as 20-year-old Jose Antonio Hernandez-Gonzalez of Buford.
Some of the other men in the parking lot were taken into police custody for questioning.
The officers involved have been placed on paid routine administrative leave pending investigation of the shooting.
The Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating the case, according to Gwinnett County police.
