ATLANTA -
Atlanta airport officials say the employee suspected of throwing eggs at a New Orleans Saints team bus last week has quit his job. A spokesperson from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport said Monday that the unidentified employee was questioned by police, and then he quit his restaurant job.
One of six buses was hit by two or three eggs in a secure area at the airport last Wednesday night. Officials said the employee's security badge has been deactivated, which revokes all of his access to the airport. They also said the company that employs him will be fined.
On Wednesday night, some Saints' players tweeted that their bus was egged when they landed at the airport. Backup quarterback Chase Daniel tweeted, "Wow… as we're boarding buses on the tarmac at Atlanta airport… we start getting eggs thrown at us by airport workers! Guess they do hate us!"
Linebacker Will Herring took it all in stride, tweeting, "First time my bus has been egged by opposing fans. Tomorrow should be fun!"
FOX 5's Aungelique Proctor spoke with veteran bus driver Clarence Lester, who was behind the wheel of the bus when it was hit. He says he's appalled by the incident.
"When we got ready to pull off, I hear this thump, and that's when the egg hit the bus," said Lester.
Lester says he has driven team buses that have been egged before, but it's never happened to him on an airport tarmac.
"It's not funny at all— I just think it's inappropriate behavior, no doubt about it," said Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport General Manager Louis Miller. "Employees should not be doing those things coming through here, and I believe it's the first time I've ever heard of it happening here."
