A trip to Sea World takes a violent turn when a dolphin attacks a little girl from Georgia.
It was all caught on camera by the girl's father last month and was later posted to YouTube. The video shows 8-year-old Jillian Thomas of Alpharetta standing beside the tank of the bottlenose dolphins during a feeding at Sea World in Orlando.
The close up encounter got too close when one of the dolphins grabbed her hand. Jillian was seen holding a container up in the air at the time that the dolphin reached out of the water and bit her hand. The family said she was afraid the dolphin would bite her hand off, but thankfully she suffered three puncture wounds.
Her mother, Amy Thomas, in a phone interview with FOX News, said she wonders if such close encounters with animals are worth it when it comes to a child's safety.
Sea World, in a statement released in response to the incident, said safety is a top priority and that there was staff monitoring the feeding.
The family said that an earlier feeding of the dolphins went without incident, but they have no plans to allow their children to participate in such close-contact feeding experiences in the future.
