Water department refund checks land in wrong hands

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of dollars in refund checks from the City of Atlanta wound up in the wrong hands.  FOX 5 has learned that the public money is from the embattled water department, which has been trying to make good for account errors citywide.

The checks were sent or delivered to the wrong address.  FOX 5 spoke to one woman who says she was shocked to receive almost $7,000 in checks she wasn't expecting in the mail.  She says she immediately took them to Atlanta City Hall, where employees realized someone had made a big mistake.
