Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a deadly home invasion that claimed the life of an elderly man. They say it happened early Tuesday at a home located in the 400 block of Jefferson River Road.
According to family members, 76-year-old Edward Davidson and his wife sleeping in their home around midnight they heard some banging on the garage door. Then, they say, someone rang the doorbell, and then broke down the front door.
Police say at some point, Davidson was shot when the suspects opened fire. They say Davidson's wife was in the bedroom at the time, and she called for help as the suspects took off running. Davidson died from the gunshot wounds he suffered.
Family members told police that the elderly couple has 10 children, and they're searching for answers as to why this happened. They're also begging for anyone with information about who may have killed their father to please come forward.
Police have not made any arrests in this case, but they're asking anyone with information to contact them. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for Davidson's death.
