Mother seeks answers after her 2-year-old son dies

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

DeKalb County investigators said they are interviewing a possible suspect in the death of a 2-year-old boy on Saturday.

The toddler's mother told FOX 5 News that she left her son with his stepfather and just an hour later, she got a call to rush to the hospital.

Danielle Calhoun said she spent the day at the park with her son Michael, but had to go run a few errands after dark. She only expected to be away for an hour, but it wasn't even that amount of time before she had to rush to Grady Memorial Hospital.

She said that by the time she arrived, her son had already passed away.

DeKalb County police said Saturday that they were investigating what happened in the apartment and have interviewed a possible suspect, but have not released their identity.

Calhoun said her apartment was a mess when she arrived home, a much different state than when she left it to run errands.

She hopes an autopsy on the child's body will hopefully yield some clues as to what happened. Doctors at the hospital told her that the toddler's body had bruises on the chest and thigh as well as a scrape on the chin.
