ATLANTA -
More than a dozen protesters chanted outside the Israeli consulate in Atlanta on Thursday. They were railing against what they call "Israeli apartheid" and blaming Israel for the new round of fighting.
"We are here in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the crimes that are being committed. As we speak, right now, in Gaza," protest organizer Ghazal Ahmadi said.
Sharon Kabalo, the Deputy Consul General for Israel in Atlanta, says the recent escalation was provoked by Hamas terrorists in Gaza, who have been raining missiles into southern Israel for weeks.
"We're talking about almost 400 rockets and mortars that were shot at Israeli citizens. Civilians, children, men, women are in shelters," said Kabalo.
Kabalo says her extended family lives in southern Israel in a town threatened by the rocket fire from Gaza.
