McAfee offers up 12 scams of Christmas

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Retailers are fighting for your holiday dollars, but so are scammers. The online security company McAfee is offering up the 12 scams of Christmas.

The online security firm says that 70 percent of us will do some holiday shopping online.  Many will do it through apps on their tablets, and even their phones.

So that you're armed with more than the spirit of giving, McAfee wants you to have the top 12 scams to watch out for.

First there's phony online classifieds that offer great deals on gifts.  Sending an e-card? Make sure it's from a legitimate source or you may end up with a virus.

McAfee warns to watch out for travel scams. If you are traveling, make sure the online deal isn't really too good to be true.

They say to be careful when you use Skype, and make sure you know whose call you're answering.

It's always nice to "like" a retailer on Facebook, but watch who you like because when you do that you allow them access to your account.

Some apps look like a kid's game when in fact it's a virus.  You should download from well-known sources.

McAfee security's 12 scams of Christmas also include the list of fakes to watch out for:  bogus gift cards, fake texts to get you to offer up personal information, phony e-tailers, fake charities, phony classifieds and holiday phishing emails. For more information, click here!
