A young Navy veteran was robbed after meeting a man who he thought wanted to buy his iPhone at a DeKalb library.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -
A young Navy veteran was robbed after meeting a man who he thought wanted to buy his iPhone.
Jonathan Dahlberg hoped to sell the iPhone he posted on Craigslist to a man he had never met before. He said he's sold other items in a similar manner many other times. But when he got to the parking lot of the DeKalb County library he got more than he bargained for.
"He got in my car and [I] showed him the phone. And after I explained everything on the phone, he pulls a gun out of his backpack, cocks it and puts it to my chest and tells me that he's taking everything I have," said Dahlberg.
With no phone, Jonathan had to run to a nearby home and ask to use the phone to call 911. DeKalb County police arrived shortly after, but weren't able to catch the armed robber.
"At first they spotted him and they chased him. They ended up losing him in the woods somewhere. And right now they're pursuing leads trying to find out who this guy is and catch him," said Dahlberg.
Jonathan says the armed robbery happened in broad daylight, but no one else was here to witness the crime because the library was closed for Veterans Day.
"It's supposed to be a day to respect those who have died and fought for this country. Not a day to rob somebody over a cell phone," said Dahlberg.
DeKalb police believe the robber lives near the library where the robbery took place.
