Police in Chatham County say an eighth person was also wounded in last weekend's shooting at the Coastal Empire Fair.
Authorities had initially said only seven people were shot, most of them between the ages of 14 and 19.
On Friday, a Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman said authorities withheld the information about the eighth victim because of conflicting and ultimately erroneous information that he may have been the target of the shooting.
Spokesman Julian Miller says the investigation later revealed the man was a passer-by who had been struck. The man remains hospitalized.
Authorities are still searching for the gunman. No one died in the shooting last Saturday night. Six of the other victims have since been released from the hospital.
