Families from all over the country sat down in front of a television Friday night to help support 2-year-old Tripp Halstead. The winder toddler has been fighting for his life for nearly two weeks after being hit by a falling tree limb.
Larry and Connie Hughes spoke with FOX 5 News about their grandson on Friday about Tripp and his recovery. They say it is probably Tripp's smile and spiked hair which draws attention to him. They say he just wants to be friends with everyone.
Tripp is still struggling to come out of his medically induced coma. They say his brain doesn't know what's going on, so it's like someone trying to wake up, but the body not cooperating. He has been violently shaking as a result which has been agonizing for his parents, but it is part of going forward.
Doctors say stimulating his brain is part of his rehab and outside of voices of family members, he hasn't gotten much. That changed Friday night when the family put on his favorite movie Cars.
The family had announced plans to watch the movie at 7 p.m. Friday in Tripp's hospital room. In response, to the news, it seemed like everyone was watching too. From Sugar Hill to Michigan to Louisiana to Texas to even Tripps extended family in the waiting room at Egleston all were watching the movie.
In a Facebook post, Tripp's mother Stacy thanked everyone who watched cars with them. She said that Tripp didn't really respond to the movie, but added that maybe he was able to have a nice dream about something that he loves.
