ATLANTA -
The Atlanta Police Department is investigating a shooting involving one of their own on Thursday.
Police say the shooting occurred shortly after 7 a.m. at the Family Dollar store at 3500 Martin Luther King Drive in southwest Atlanta. They say someone called officers complaining of a suspicious person in the area. Investigators say that person was behind the store.
"The subject pulled a weapon on the officer, that weapon being a handgun. During that exchange, the officer fired his weapon striking that individual twice. That subject was transported to the hospital where that individual now is in critical, but stable condition," said Lt. Paul Guerrucci of the APD.
Police say they located a weapon at the scene.
The names of the suspect and the officer have not been released.
