COVINGTON, Ga. -
Authorities say a former assistant high school basketball coach is accused of sending sexually inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old student at the school.
Newton County sheriff's officials say 27-year-old James Levert Carter faces a charge of enticing a child for indecent purposes.
Sheriff's Deputy Courtney Morrison said the 15-year-old girl discovered sexually inappropriate text messages on her iPod last month. Morrison said investigators were able to retrieve messages from Carter's cell phone.
The Newton Citizen reports (http://bit.ly/TtPBb6) that Carter was an assistant boys' basketball coach and a special education paraprofessional at Newton High School. It wasn't known early Wednesday whether he has an attorney.
Sherri Davis-Viniard, a spokeswoman for the Newton County School System, said he no longer works at the school.
