Georgia voters face a host of voting decisions on the local level. One of the hottest issues Georgia voters will also decide on Election Day will be the charter schools constitutional amendment.
If approved, it would give the state more authority to fund charter schools. A coalition opposed to it rallied at the state capitol on Monday, arguing the ballot question contains deceptive language.
Supporters of the charter schools referendum marched to the state capitol last week. They say it gives parents and kids options.
In the Clayton County sheriff's race, Democrat Victor Hill is being challenged by write-in candidate Garland Watkins. Hill beat Sheriff Kem Kimbrough in the Democratic primary. Hill faces 32 charges in a corruption case while he was sheriff between 2005 and 2008. His trial was to start later this month, but has been delayed.
Voters in DeKalb County's newest city will elect a mayor and four city council members. Twenty-four candidates have filed to fill the five elected seats, which means there could be runoff elections on December 4.
Former house speaker Glenn Richardson is running for the legislative seat being vacated by Senator Bill Hamrick of Carrollton. The 52-year-old Richardson resigned in 2009 after suffering political and personal setbacks that included a suicide attempt and revelations of an affair with a lobbyist.
