Ga. Southern Univ. explores Savannah brick vaults

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, Ga. -

Archaeologists from Georgia Southern University will start exploring brick vaults built into an old Savannah retaining wall.

WTOC-TV reports the investigation will start Sunday and last three to four months. The team will create a three-dimensional model of the vaults, called the Cluskey Embankment Stores, using laser-scanning technology.

The vaults sit along the stone-paved Drayton Street Ramp on Factor's Walk. Although the vaults have been used for parking, their original purpose is not clear.
