SAVANNAH, Ga. -
Savannah officials say the city's second Rock `n' Roll Marathon was a fist-pumping success.
Organizers say more than 17,000 runners competed in the 26.2-mile race -- and it's much more forgiving half-marathon -- through the oak-shaded squares and historic neighborhoods of Georgia's oldest city on Saturday.
Jeff Mescal of Hebron, Ind., was the full marathon men's winner with a time of two hours, 43 minutes and four seconds. Jill Horst of Rome, Ga., was the women's winner for the second year in a row with a time of two hours, 52 minutes and five seconds.
Savannah is the smallest of 26 cities on the Rock `n' Roll Marathon's U.S. tour. The event will return next year for the final race of a three-year deal.
