Thousands of people lined up for the final day of early voting on Friday. Officials say that almost 2 million Georgians took advantage of the chance to cast their ballots before Tuesday's election.
COBB COUNTY VOTERS BRAVE LONG LINES
A line stretched out of the building and well down the road at the East Cobb Government Center on Friday. Wait times ranged from 45 minutes to two hours at the nine open precincts in Cobb County.
Despite the long lines, people's spirits remained upbeat.
"It was streamlined real well. We only stood in line about an hour and 20 minutes and it was very organized and everyone was very cordial and considerate and it was just a nice experience.
As of Thursday, Cobb election officials said that nearly 80,000 people had voted at one of the early voting sites. Around 20,000 people had cast absentee ballots.
RECORDS SET IN GWINNETT COUNTY
Long lines have led to record–breaking early voting in Gwinnett County. At its peak time, voters waited three hours on Friday to cast their votes.
While that may sound bad, on the last day of early voting in 2008 the wait right was about 12 hours.
To try and avoid the half a day wait to vote, Gwinnett County added extra workers and extra voting machines on Thursday. That's on top of the extra workers and machines it added earlier this week in response to long lines and angry voters from Saturday.
The number of early voters has increased just about every day this week and it's possible that by the time the early voting centers close on Friday, about half of the active registered voters in Gwinnett County will have cast a ballot.
Election officials say that should make lines much shorter on Election Day.
Gwinnett County will have more than 150 precincts open on Tuesday and election officials do not expect delays of more than an hour.
