Police in Dunwoody say the action of neighbors helped foil a burglary. The 911 calls show how the neighbors helped police catch the suspects.
Authorities say the neighbors called for help when they saw the suspected burglars breaking in. They stayed on the line, investigators say, giving vital information.
Portions of 911 Call
Dispatch: Can you hear anything moving around in the apartment?
Caller: Yes, the apartment is directly above us. They're ransacking the apartment right now. We can hear it.
Caller: Whoever it is, they're still in there.
Dispatch: Did you say they're still in there?
Caller: The police are not in the right place.
Dunwoody detectives say without the call and up-to-the-moment information, the two suspects would probably not be behind bars.
"We need help from the community, and this was a perfect example," said Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department. "We had a neighbor that was paying attention, heard what was going on with these individuals kicking in the door, and the first response they did was call 911 and that's what we want."
Investigators say the callers guided them in to the exact location of the suspects.
"We were able to catch the car that was fleeing from the scene after they already went in and ransacked the apartment," said Carlson.
Dunwoody police officers have charged the two suspects, 29-year old Daseantus Quinte Barkley and 28-year old Walter Lee Wiley, with burglary. They believe the men were going after valuables and a flat screen TV.
