As Hurricane Sandy prepares to make landfall in the northeast United States, utility crews throughout the nation are scrambling to prepare for the havoc Sandy may cause.
Georgia Power and EMC crews left for Baltimore on Sunday, and more EMC crews from throughout the state are expected to be sent.
EMC officials say 85 linemen and equipment from 11 electric cooperatives began leaving Saturday morning and the remainder will depart on Monday. They say more crews and equipment will be sent if help is needed.
According to a report by the Associated Press, the center of Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall in New Jersey sometime on Monday night.
