Tennessee Valley Authority officials say construction on the Watts Bar Unit 2 nuclear reactor is on schedule to be finished in December 2015 and the cost are still on target about $4.2 billion.
TVA Senior Vice President for Nuclear Construction Mike Skaggs says about 17 million man hours of work have taken place without incident.
Watts Bar unit 2 Completion Manager Rob Beecken told the Chattanooga Times Free Press the process of operating two reactors together is an ongoing one that is completed in stages.
Watts Bar, 48 miles northeast of Chattanooga, has been a start-and-stop project. Initially started in 1973, the project was shut down in 1985 when it was said to be about half finished at a cost of $1.7 billion.
Work resumed in 2008.
