Marietta police say several people were transported to area hospitals after an accident involving a school bus and a car on Friday, October 26.
MARIETTA, Ga. -
A Marietta Middle School student is facing serious injuries after his mom crashed into a school bus on Friday morning. Police say the accident happened at the intersection of North Marietta Parkway and Polk Street at around 7:45 a.m.
According to police, a 2001 Acura TL driven by 36-year-old Bhavani Saride failed to yield and turned left in front of the school bus, causing the bus to hit the car. Her 12-year-old son sitting in the passenger seat was injured, and airlifted to Children's at Scottish Rite.
Marietta police say the boy is in stable condition and not expected to worsen.
WellStar Kennestone Hospital treated 15 students from the bus, and the bus driver, Bonnie Banks, 57, for minor injuries.
One high school student said she was jerked forward when the bus hit the car, and another said everyone kind of popped out of their seats and hit their heads.
Marietta school officials say parents were notified of the accident.
The 12-year-old is listed in stable condition at Scottish Rite.
Police say the case remains under investigation, and charges are pending. They are asking any witnesses to the crash to contact them.
