Help is on the way for early voters stuck in long lines. You'll be able to cast a ballot during a one-time Saturday voting period. Each county will have early voting locations open this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
So far, nearly 700,000 votes have already been cast in Georgia. The majority of those have been in Fulton and DeKalb counties.
During this past week, early voters had to wait in long lines in both Gwinnett and Cobb counties. Unlike Fulton and DeKalb, early voters in Gwinnett and Cobb had only one place to cast a ballot: their main election office. Some people had to wait for hours to cast their ballot.
Cobb County did open a the Civic Center for voting on Thursday, and that will be the only place voters can cast a ballot on Saturday. Next week, eight more polling locations will open, bringing the total number to 10. Election officials say scheduling conflicts prevented them from opening the extra spots earlier.
In Gwinnett County, you still can only vote at the main election office. But that will change on Saturday when four satellite polling places open. Those locations will also be available next week. Gwinnett election officials defended the lack of early voting locations, saying they had to manage the growing number of mail in ballots.
You do not have to have a reason to vote early. Voters may find their advanced voting poll location by visiting the "My Voter Page" at mvp.sos.state.ga.us.
