A police manhunt for a robbery suspect in Buckhead backed up traffic for an hour on Thursday.
Atlanta police say they have a suspect in custody following a robbery at an apartment complex in northeast Atlanta on Thursday. The incident happened on the 2700 block of Pine Tree Road.
According to Atlanta police, units responded to the alarm at the apartment, and while on their way, spotted the suspect on a bicycle. When officers approached him, he dumped his bike and ran across Ga. 400 on foot to a nearby hotel off Sydney Marcus Boulevard in Buckhead.
Police say he ran into a hotel complex containing the Town Place Inn by Marriott and the Country Inn. He entered one of the rooms, and kept police at bay.
A short time later the suspect peacefully surrendered to police.
Authorities identified the suspect as 20-year-old Ulyesse Checkley. Atlanta police say he has prior arrests for drug possession and weapons charges.
Police say Checkley is being charged with burglary, criminal damage to property and theft by receiving as well as obstruction.
