NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -
Police in Newton County are investigating a pedestrian accident that left a 12-year-old girl dead on Wednesday.
The Georgia State Patrol says the accident happened at Highway 81 near Oak Hill Road at around 7 a.m.
The GSP says a car struck Lynneah Browning as she walked along the highway near Oak Hill Road. The driver called 911 to alert authorities who spent the morning investigating the crash.
That pedestrian later died from her injuries.
"I heard a racket this morning. Then I saw lights flashing and I walked down there and I was told somebody had been hit," said neighbor Irene Ivey.
As reconstruction teams tried to determine what happened, neighbor Randy Simmons said the highway is too fast, and that there are plenty of hidden driveways. He says there is plenty of heavy traffic on the road and that makes it dangerous for drivers and pedestrians alike.
