A Griffin business owner says someone tore down an "Obama for President" sign. The Spaulding County Sheriff's Office says someone also egged and rolled the business owner's home with toilet paper.
Daa'ood Amin is a Spaulding county native who says he's invested in the community. He grew up in Griffin, owns a sheet rock business and purchased a building downtown.
Amin said he was stunned to wake last week and find the trees in his front yard rolled with toilet paper.
In addition to the trees being rolled with toilet paper, when Amin said the he found cracked eggs all over his mailbox and one inside.
For 25 years, the Griffin businessman says he's had no problems. That's why the prank didn't make sense to him. Then he thought of the huge sign he bought and hung on his downtown building supporting President Barack Obama the day before.
On Sunday, someone snatched the 12-by-4 foot sign down from its prominent placement downtown and stole it. Amin says the mean-spirited act crossed the line.
"You start thinking about your family, about their safety and it bothers you…but I reported it to law enforcement," said Amin.
Amin says Spaulding County is overwhelmingly Republican, so he is surprised someone would take the drastic measure to tear down the 12-foot Obama sign.
The sheriff said that his office is investigating but has no leads.
Amin said that he has decided to replace the $160 sign.
"To me someone is saying, ‘How dare you have the nerve to promote the president re-election bid in this county,'" said Amin. "I'm here to say I will and I shall continue doing that. I know my rights as a citizen, property owner."
Amin said he plans to hang the new sign up on Wednesday.
