Long lines seen at early voting stations

Posted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -

With two weeks remaining before the November 6th General Election, early voting continues in Georgia. Long lines were seen at a polling station in Marietta on Monday, and at the Gwinnett County Board of Elections on Tuesday.

The main election office in Cobb County is, for now, the only early voting location in the county. An average of 1,400 voters cast ballots each day at the location last week.

"Most people have gone to work. So I thought we'd go right in. It wasn't bad, maybe half an hour, 45 minutes," said early voter Jake Bagby.

The wait had doubled a few hours later.

More than 460,000 Georgia voters cast early ballots by late last week. That number includes mail-in ballots. Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett and Henry counties reported the highest turnout.

Cobb County officials hope the long lines of voters will diminish once the county opens the Cobb County Civic Center for early voting on Thursday.

"I think they just need to be very patient and bring their photo ID, and be prepared for a long wait in line if they want to vote early this week," said Cobb elections director, Janine Eveler.

Cobb election officials say they plan to have nine early voting stations open by next Monday.
On Election Day, Cobb will have 153 polling places. Early voting this year will include Saturday voting in all Georgia counties.

Any registered voter can take advantage of early voting in Georgia. Voters need to make sure to have a government issued ID, like a passport or driver's license. Hours and locations for advance voting will vary from county-to-county.
