Thousands of dedicated walkers will complete a 60-mile journey today as the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk makes its way to Turner Field. The event raises millions for breast cancer research, not to mention awareness.
For three days, nearly 1,600 walkers covered in pink from head to toe have made the 60-mile trek around the streets of metro Atlanta on their way to closing ceremonies at Turner Field. They walk an average of 20 miles each day and sleep in tents each night along the way.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation says this year's Atlanta walk has raised more than $4.2 million. Of that money, 75 percent of the net proceeds go to national research and large public health outreach programs, while the remaining 25 percent supports local community and affiliate outreach programs.
The event returns to Atlanta in 2013, and registration is already open. Next year's walk will take place October 18-20. For registration information, visit www.The3Day.org.
