ATLANTA (AP) - A state official says five employees are expected to lose their jobs at the Georgia State Archives.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/TD1aLE ) on Friday that he will bring back two other employees. The announcement comes a day after officials said they plan to keep the archives open with regular hours.
Gov. Nathan Deal and Kemp said Thursday that $125,000 in funding will be restored to allow the archives to stay open to the public two days a week. The money was enough to keep the archives open until the middle of the next year.
Last month, Kemp announced plans to lay off state workers and give limited, appointment-only access to the archives in Morrow, where Georgia keeps important records dating to its founding in 1733.
