Felon charged in Chicago restaurant worker murder

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Authorities in Chicago say they've charged a convicted felon with the Feb. 9 fatal shooting of a woman working at a Subway restaurant on the city's west side.

The Chicago Tribune reports that 41-year-old Anthony White was charged Friday with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The newspaper says White has several drug convictions on his record.

Chicago police say 54-year-old Lynetta Ward was working behind the counter at the restaurant when an armed man entered and announced a robbery. Detective Commander Anthony Riccio says the robber shot Ward when she backed away. The robber got away after confronting a second worker and grabbing money from the cash register.

A separate investigation led police to a person who identified White as the robber in surveillance video released after the robbery.
